OMG!!11 I see an advertisement! You told me you wouldn’t do this to me why did you ruin my life??/
The site has been a lot more successful in it’s first year than I ever would’ve imagined. As a consequence the site costs a lot more money to operate than I planned. It has never been and will never be my goal to get rich doing this. It’s a hell of a lot of fun, but I have a job I love and have no aspirations of doing Ask Silky for a living. I would, however, appreciate the site being able to support itself.
The other reason I decided to incorporate a few ads is because I have plans to expand the Ask Silky merchandise offering in the spring of ‘08. I’m planning a live event for the site and I want to have a couple of t-shirts, prints of the “artwork” and such. I’m looking at probably $1000 to get started and it would be nice if I didn’t have to fork that all out of my pockets.
The ads are all hosted through Google’s Adsense advertising program. I wanted to be sure that anything advertised on this site is totally legit. The last thing I want is people going out of their way to read my site getting ripped off by some asshole. I get to choose what categories appear, but I do not select the individual ads. They are referral ads, not pay-per-click, so I only get paid if someone buys the product or subscribes to the service.
I tried to set the banners toward the bottom of the page so they’re as least invasive as possible. If you don’t like the advertisements the best way to stick it to me is to not click on them. However, if you want to support me and the site and you happen to see something you like, why not check it out?
Your movie reviews suck. Do you even watch the movies before reviewing them.

What happened to the links section?
I removed the links section because I reevaluated my desire to link to other sites. I will eventually link to some sites that I think are relevant or cool, or otherwise sufficiently awesome. I do not have the desire to place links on my site for the sake of gaining popularity. This site is mainly for my entertainment, and I don’t give a shit if anyone else thinks it’s good enough to link to.
